Hello, my name is Chen Gorali. I was born in Galilea, Israel and have lived in The Netherlands since 1983. For the past 15 years I have been following various personal growth trainings and courses. You can find information about these under the title Chen Gorali.
My main work includes Trauma Healing, psychotherapy with Bodywork, and Therapeutic Massage.
I give sessions in Hebrew, Dutch and English.
The main methods I use include:
Trauma healing through Somatic Experiencing®
Somatic Experiencing® is a body-awareness approach to resolving the effects of trauma.
It is the result of over forty years of observation, research, and hands-on development by Dr. Levine. Based upon the realization that human beings have an innate ability to overcome the effects of trauma.
Somatic Experiencing has touched the lives of many thousands. SE® restores self-regulation, and returns a sense of aliveness, relaxation and wholeness to traumatized individuals who have had these precious gifts taken away.
SE offers a framework to assess where a person is “stuck” in the fight, flight, freeze, or collapse responses and provides clinical tools to resolve these fixated physiological states.
The SE approach releases traumatic shock, which is key to transforming PTSD and the wounds of emotional and early developmental attachment trauma.
Background
Dr. Levine, founder of SE, found in his studies that prey animals in the wild are rarely traumatized despite routine threats to their lives. Yet human beings are readily traumatized. Since humans and other animals possess nearly identical brain- and body-based survival mechanisms, Dr. Levine worked to identify what was interfering with the human threat-recovery process, and to develop tools for restoring people’s innate capacity to rebound following overwhelming experiences.
Although humans are similarly designed to rebound from high-intensity survival states, we also have the problematic ability to neo-cortically override the natural discharge of excess survival energy. Through rationalizations, judgments, shame, enculturation, and fear of our bodily sensations, we may disrupt our innate capacity to self-regulate, functionally “recycling” disabling terror and helplessness.
How SE works
SE does not require the traumatized person to re-tell or re-live the traumatic event. Instead, it offers the opportunity to engage, complete and resolve in a gradual and supported way the body’s instinctual fight, flight, freeze, and collapse responses. Individuals locked in anxiety or rage then relax into a growing sense of peace and safety. Those stuck in depression gradually find their feelings of hopelessness and numbness transformed into empowerment, triumph, and mastery. SE catalyses corrective bodily experiences that contradict those of fear and helplessness. This resets the nervous system, restores inner balance, enhances resilience to stress, and increases people’s vitality, equanimity, and capacity to actively engage in life.
Causes of traumas can be from everyday life:
Neglect during childhood, prenatal or birth trauma, feeling unsafe or being bullied in childhood, medical interventions, the loss of someone close, difficult relationships, stress in the workplace, acute or chronic diseases and pain.
Other kinds of trauma are related to events such as: serious accidents, war violence, mental or physical abuse, natural disasters, the witnessing of traumatic events.
Psychotherapy and Bodywork
In this work I use methods were developed by Willem Reich and Alexander Lowen. After years of study they came to profound insights into the relationship between physical strains and pains and stuck emotional patterns.
This Method starts by treating physical blocks and blocks to the breath. By releasing them, we become aware of our emotional blocks and old patterns and we discover a way of freeing ourselves from them. This fascinating process occurs through deep breathing, physical and self-expression exercises.
People who do this work find themselves more energetic, lively, powerful and in harmony with themselves and their surroundings.
Psychotherapy with bodywork is suitable when:
- you are feeling physically or emotionally blocked or overwhelmed
- you are searching for joy in life and extra energy
- you want to improve your relationships with yourself and others
- you are looking for more inner peace
- you feel that you would like to get more out of life
I also give therapeutic massage for those who suffer from physical pain and stress.
The methods that I use for massage are:
* Classic massage or Swedish massage to loosen the muscles and the joints.
* Reflexology of the foot – the whole body is treated via the reflex zones on the feet.
* Deep tissue release – this is a very subtle way of touching places on the body which are forgotten or painful. It gives you the opportunity and the space to discover your emotional and physical blocks and provides a way to release them. Softness neutralises hardness. This method invites you to discover this in your own body.
* Acupressure – based on the Chinese massage method which treats the energetic body and its meridians (energy lines in the body).
* Relaxation massage – for those who seek relaxation and are finding it hard to reach this by themselves.
Experience has shown me that a combination of the methods described above profoundly supports the system, enabling it to rediscover its own balance, strength and wholeness.
I am a member of the Dutch association SBLP en SRBAG. Some health insurance companies insure my sessions. For more information, click here, or call me, also for any other information.
